The centriole is a small cylinder-shaped cellular structrue that organise the centrosome, which orchestrate correct cell division, and drive formation of cilia and flagella, which are critical for vision, hearing, excluding mucus and sperm mobility. Centrioles acquire these diversed functions by having different structures. Also, the structure of centrioles are altered in different disease states such as cancer.
Our mission is to determine structrues centrioles in different tissues and disease states to understand how these differences affect functions of the organelles.
We use structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography as well as biochemistry and cell biology to achive this goal.
